The NEVIS 62 is a shoal draft, long keel, cutter rig, cruising yacht with adequate sail area for light weather.

Strongly built and with a fairly high displacement to waterline length ratio she has a comfortable motion at sea, the appropriate storage space and tankage for extended cruising and a large volume for roomy accommodation. Long keel advantages are directional stability, reduced rolling motion by damping imparted wave force, the ability to comfortably lie a’ hull in extreme conditions and protection for the rudder and propeller.

In an elegant but updated traditional style she has more beam for her length than similar size yachts of the past with her maximum beam carried further aft to give a fine bow entry for improved windward performance and a flatter run aft to enhance off wind speed. More beam means firmer sections for better initial stability but the beam to length ratio is not too high to have an adverse effect on self-righting characteristics.

A cruising yacht should perform well both upwind and downwind as performance can also mean safety. Difficult situations can be sailed out of and less time spent underway can help to avoid deteriorating weather conditions.
